Retaining Key Employees

With today’s economic pressures on both companies and individuals, retaining key employees has become increasingly challenging. The cost of training sales and marketing personnel, as well as other key personnel, can exceed $150,000, factoring in salary and benefits of trainees and the hard costs of training and development programs. Yet, it is not unusual for trainees or young, promising sales reps to “jump ship,” lured by stock options, a small sign-on bonus and/or a small increase in pay by another company. The consequence? The original company loses its training investment, and the employee probably has made his/her first mistake (of perhaps, many) in valuing upfront cash over more lucrative long-term benefits. To assist companies in this important area, Brick & Kyle has developed a Retention/Recruitment of Key Employees Program, which includes the following elements:
  • Customized Seminars for Small Employee Groups to reinforce a company’s benefits programs, to demonstrate ways the employee can be more productive in order to increase salary and bonuses, and to address the real cost of “job hopping,” particularly for those companies that have defined benefit pension plans.

  • An Interactive Software Program that can also be used by human resources personnel, middle managers and regional managers on an individual basis with key employees to reinforce the benefits of working for the company. As a recruiting tool, this program can also be used to highlight a company’s strong benefits program and competitive compensation program to attract high potential employees from other firms.

  • Individual Counseling with Key Employees on an as-needed or scheduled basis to provide reinforcement of the company’s total compensation value from an objective, outside source. These counseling sessions would be conducted on a completely confidential level to ensure the appropriate level of trust with the employee.
